A Conversation with Madeleine Spencer, author of Soul-Making & Co-Director of Placemaking US, that will rely on her Jungian & Community Psychologist perspective, to explore the deepest questions about The Tortured Poets Department and to learn about the mysterious and magical chemical and inner forces that are produced between two souls and the “why” of these age-old eternal questions reflected in Swift’s metaphors, narrative, and journey...
And as a second element we will be featuring our United Nations World Creativity & Innovation Day Digital Design Charrette, we’ll be asking HOW might Swifties help Taylor to #ExitTrumanShow by developing new channelsof “Value Creation” possibilities in a networked, participatory & circular economy for grassroots organizations & micro-scale entrepreneurs. Our first project is a “Co-Design”for a Friendship Bracelet with input from Swifties on style and onrecycled materials STRATEGY. (This project was beta-tested in Detroit with the Swiftie Suite Project and Rebel Nell a mission-driven social jewelry design company.
Background & Story Theory:
Design Brief Overview:
What:
A Symposium & Digital Design Charrette in Toronto November 21–22, 2024: We will host a symposium Q&A with Madeleine Spencer, author of Soul-Making: Where Human Relationship is the Projective Medium to answer Swifties deepest questions about The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, to learn about the mysterious and magical forces at play in various relationships and between two souls and why? We will also be facilitating a “Co-Design” for a Friendship Bracelet with input from Swifties and hosted on the United Nations World Creativity and Innovation platform, that will utilize recycled materials to create a circular economy initiative with the “new knowledge” combined and produced. (Beta-Tested during The Eras Tour Detroit June 2023)
A Documentary Media Project to uncover the themes of TTPD and to explore new forms of production of knowledge to understand Curiosity and Creativity as it was written and as it is being performed LIVE as an unfolding drama impacting film, music and now the NFL as industries regarding dynamics of Value Creation vs. Value Extraction. Education, Commercial Real Estate and Cities are systems to explore next, which her music reflects on.
Purpose: To introduce new combinations and knowledge into the “Swiftian Cinematic Universe,” regarding the hidden messages in Tortured Poets via networks of Placemaking, and via PHINCO’s Demonstrator Project with London & UK Policy Lab on Innovation Districts & Placemaking. (See “The Albatross” for a documentary overview on how Swift’s album speaks to late-stage capitalistic behaviors in post-industrial cities by PHINCO Co-Director Monica Williams)
Outcome: Networks of Value Creation i.e. Digital Media Production and Circular Economy “Friendship Bracelet” Co-Design Prototype via and Eras Tour pilot model for events, in development to exhibit during the United Nations World Creativity Week/Day Detroit event 4.16-21.2025 and the Gordie Howe Bridge opening ceremony slated for September 2025 during the time of PHINCO’S 9th Annual Park(ing) Day “Detroit to Pontiac” & Detroit Month of Design, UNESCO City of Design Detroit event 9.19.2025. We are developing a learning exchange with grassroots New Orleans teams working on a sustainable Mardi Gras and will test our project next there March 2025.
People: Develop CURIOSITY-Driven Learning Exchange & Talent Networks, using Swift’s and Spencer’s metaphors to connect this as “Project & Place-Based Learning” with transitional K-12 schools as a “Digital Design Challenge”, and with unfolding networks in Pontiac, New Orleans, Corktown, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Toronto to demonstrate “small is beautiful” for scale economic and social solutions, impacting the tourist and event economies found in all cities and utilizing a shared and simple “Journey, Vision, Gameplan” PHINCO digital design platform for facilitating universal human experience within each unique context.
Methodology: Rooted in the theoretical principles of Design & Systems Thinking, Innovation Districts & Placemaking, and Social Emotional Learning for K-12 (e.g. “Inner, Outer, Other” in The Triple Focus, and The Third Teacher frameworks +++) to inform our “Digital Design Charrette.” The theoretical breakdown of TTPD is written by Co-Director of PHINCO Monica Williams to introduce “new knowledge” for thematic understanding and development and is directly focused on the double album via links to the songs, and random quotes that should be assumed to be from TTPD and if additional sources are referenced this will be noted. This recent event covered the philosophical themes of Taylor’s work with limited coverage of TTPD. (208) Taylor Swift and philosophy | LSE Event — YouTube So this body of work is meant to add to this understanding via PHINCO’s “creative combination” of Madeleine Spencer’s Soul-Making body of work and Placemaking US and grassroots networks, and will link to this event as it relates to the case made.
Questions: 1. What is the plot line of TTPD? (it is a simple story but mapping the autofiction of Swift’s narrative has overwhelmed even the best Swifties, the plotline must be established clearly in order to understand the message). 2. Why study this as a “new art form” that addresses the Value Creation vs. Value Extraction forces at play in our world? 3. What can we learn about Curiosity and inner Creative process through engagement of TTPD? (as a complete work through the double album that is being performed through the “Reality Show” of Swift’s life and the evolving performance within The Eras Tour) 4. How does an understanding of PLACE inform understanding of TTPD?
